Fender Precision Bass refers to the bass guitar Andy Rourke used from January 26, 1984 onwards. This superseded the Yamaha BB2000.

According to Rourke, the bass was bought from Manny’s Music in New York City, on a trip with Johnny Marr and Seymour Stein. This was after The Smiths inked a contract with Stein's American record label Sire Records. Rourke commented on his purchase, "I picked out this old beat-up bass because its label said 1964—same year I was born."

This is Rourke's most seen bass during his career with The Smiths. Unlike other basses Rourke has owned, the bass is still in his possession.
