Auditions for a guitarist were held after Marr's departure from The Smiths, and Ivor Perry was selected to fill Marr's shoes. Perry recorded new material with the band in a session at a studio in Wilesden, which was never completed. This included a demo of Bengali in Platforms, which was originally intended to be the B-side of Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before. Sessions in the studio ended, according to Perry, with Morrissey running out of the studio. "It was like they wanted another Johnny Marr." Perry said of the experience. Morrissey did not turn up for the pre-booked second session, and the band split up soon after.
